CU2 . draft
Role: Planner, Designer
Type: Narrative, Visual Design, Publication
Description
The CU2 publication is a new take on the Combinatory Urbanism 2011 publication; a book dedicated to highlighting new design concepts and methods that respond to the complex interplay of human and natural forces shaping cities today. A full decade later, the design trends and industry continue to evolve, pressing for a revised and improved Combinatory Urbanism, one that reframes projects through a new urban lens of today’s time. Leading the narrative, strategy, and visual design for the book, the challenge was around taking complex projects, and stripping them down into simple, digestible and easy to understand concepts. The scope consisted of deeply understanding the project takeaways across 12+ urban projects, and how they could be reframed under a new structural framework for designing cities in today’s time; problem, opportunity, solution. Key common concepts across projects were also identified to develop a set of tangible design systems that can be implemented across future projects. Novel visual design trends were also developed, challenging the way ideas and concepts are communicated. Clarity in both narrative and design were key to achieving a first draft of the new and improved Combinatory Urbanism, II.
